One of the major joys of logging mile after mile preparing for a race, is getting to the day of the actual event!! There are many runners who never run an actual race and are very happy with running for the pleasure of that alone. Admittedly, I love running for the races, and especially for super fun races that go above and beyond to make it a great experience.
Last year, I was registered to run the Disney Half Marathon in January. Unfortunately, dangerous storm conditions lead to the race being cancelled and we were offered a chance to register for another Disney race. After missing two other races, I was weary about ever being satisfied with this situation. Registering for this race was my last ditch effort at redeeming a replacement race and I didn’t have much hope.
This weekend, was THE race — such a wonderful experience. About 15,000 of my closest runbuds and I ran the Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon in Orlando, Florida. I’ve had the very best time I’ve ever had running a race!!! Despite starting at 5:30 am and spending lots of time on dark service roads between parks, the brief time in the parks was punctuated by very enthusiastic Disney staff and characters! The characters on the course made it absolutely AMAZING!
Dressed at the “cutest trooper”, I joined fellow troopers and Dark Siders in lots of fun pictures. They helped the miles pass and I didn’t even care that it took me 30 minutes longer than normal to run the distance. All in all it was EVERYTHING!
I was disappointed that the race I originally registered for was cancelled last January and I was nervous about having to find an alternative, but this was the BEST CHOICE EVER!
